Glass-on-Glass Mosaics Course

(1st week is 4hr session, 2nd week is 1.5hr session)

$125 class fee +:

--$10 tool rental OR $80 tool purchase (nippers, scorers, running pliers) OR  BYO

--Glass purchased by 5in x 5in square /$5 each OR BYOG

Get introduced to the art of mosaics, in particular the method of “glass-on-glass” mosaics. This method replicates the look of stained glass, but without the need for soldering. You will design and create a unique 8 x 10 inch framed mosaic picture using a variety of colorful stained/art glass. In the first session, we will cover design, materials selection, tool use, mosaic setting, and local resources. Students will have a rainbow of colors available to purchase (or can bring their own sheet glass).  You’ll design their own mosaic using pattern, repetition, and color. Bring a simple 8in x 10in printed photo or line drawing to use. You’ll learn and practice using glass cutting tools to make both curved and straight-lined pieces. You’ll also learn proper techniques for preparing mosaic surfaces before starting and gluing your “tesserae” on to your piece. Then you’ll need to take your piece home between classes to finish your design and allow it to completely dry. In the 2nd session, we will assemble the piece, and hanging hardware, and grout to complete your project.

This afternoon class is a fun way to learn a new skill hands-on for those interested in pursuing mosaics as a hobby.  It is BYOL (Lunch).
